By the Snail Ukuleles team — April 2026
Last weekend, we packed up a selection of Snail ukuleles and headed to the North East Guitar Show alongside our friends and UK distributors, Red Chilli Audio. It was a brilliant day — busy, loud in the best possible way, and full of the kind of conversations you only get at live music events.
A room full of musicians
Guitar shows have a particular energy that's hard to describe if you haven't been to one. People come from all over — collectors, hobbyists, professionals, teenagers on their first serious instrument hunt, retirees rediscovering a passion they set aside decades ago. The common thread is that everyone there genuinely cares about instruments. That makes for really good conversations.
We had a lot of people stop by who'd never picked up a ukulele before, some who were curious after spotting one at a friend's house, and a few experienced players looking for something to add to their collection. What struck us — as it always does at shows — is how quickly people fall for the ukulele the moment they actually play one. The learning curve is gentle, the sound is immediately rewarding, and there's something about the instrument's size that makes it feel approachable in a way a full-size guitar sometimes doesn't.
What we brought on the day
We brought a selection spanning the full range — from beginner-friendly mahogany concert models right up to some of our solid wood pro instruments. Having that spread side by side is always useful at shows because people can hear and feel the difference between laminate and solid construction, between mahogany and ebony, between concert and tenor. It's the kind of comparison that's difficult to make when you're buying online, and we always enjoy being able to talk people through it in person.
A few instruments that got a lot of attention on the day:
- The UKC-E498 Ebony Concert — the all-ebony build always turns heads visually, and the tone surprised a few people who expected it to sound like a toy
- The S10C Solid Mahogany Concert — this one consistently impresses experienced players who pick it up expecting one thing and get something considerably more
- The Hola HM124MG — a reminder that a great beginner instrument doesn't have to cost a fortune or compromise on playability
Why shows still matter
We sell online, and we love that we can reach players all over the UK and beyond without anyone needing to make a trip to West Yorkshire. But shows remind us why the physical experience of an instrument matters. You can read every spec sheet and watch every review video, and it still won't tell you quite how a particular ukulele feels under your fingers or how it sounds in a room full of noise.
If you saw us at the North East Guitar Show and have questions about anything you played or heard, drop us an email at sales@snail-ukulele.com or give us a call on 0113 457 5222. We're always happy to talk through what might be the right instrument for you.
